Molluscom Contagiosum Removal

We offer an effective laser-based treatment for various skin lesions, including Poxvirus or Molluscum Contagiosum virus infection.

What is Molluscom Contagiosum?

Molluscum contagiosum is basically an epidermal skin infection caused by a virus, which is known as molluscum contagiosum or poxvirus. This virus produces benign lesions, or bumps, on the superficial layers of the infected person’s skin.

They usually appear on the neck, face, armpits, arms, and surface of children’s hands or even genital areas between 2 to 8 weeks after viral infection.

Signs and Symptoms:

  • Bumps and lesions
  • Erythema or redness
  • Itchiness
  • Inflammation
  • Pus formation

The transmission of Molluscum Contagiosum virus occurs quickly through contact with contaminated objects, skin-to-skin contact and sexual transmission (sexual contact with an affected partner)

Note: The Poxvirus or Molluscum Contagiosum virus remains in the superficial layer of the epidermis. This virus does not spread through coughing or sneezing.

⦁ Curettage

At Renew Skin and Health Clinic, there is an effective laser-based treatment for various skin lesions, including Molluscum Contagiosum infection.

We can treat children (over 10 years of age) with PDL (Pulsed dye laser) therapy. In contrast, CO2 laser therapy is generally preferred for adults. In these methods, the lesion is removed effectively with a laser having minimal side effects.

We charge just £600 to treat up to 20 lesions or spots. Please be aware that there will be consultation fee of £100 to pay to see our doctor. A free follow up review is required at the end of 30 days

Treatment is generally not required as most spots or lesions vanish by itself by 12- 18 months. For someone who is an adult and has very extensive lesions of MC, we advise them to attend their local GU clinic to exclude an underlying HIV infection.
